Tata Chemicals Limited operates a highly energy efficient state-of-art fertilizer complex at Babrala in Uttar Pradesh. The company has integrated ISO systems (ISO-9001-2000, ISO-14001-1996) and (OHSAS 18001-1999) and has implemented fully the systems and processes to have process driven culture. The company periodically reviews all its systems and processes in order to improve the same continuously. Four years ago, they have followed and implemented the guidelines of British Safety Council throughout their sites, and conferred with the “Sword of Honor Award” by the British Safety Council and “EMS Five Star Rating” for the first time in the world as an example of commitment. These processes have matured and are now the part of ISO systems enabling the safety work culture in all locations of the company.

It is gratifying to note that the Tata Chemicals has taken various initiatives such as workplace organization through 5S, Good House keeping Scheme, Accident Prevention Programme, Disaster Management Plan, Business Risk Management, Crisis Management Plan and behaviour-based safety throughout the organization. The company has initiated the “Corporate Sustainable Reporting” based on the GRI-2002 guidelines. The CSR recognizes the company in dealing with all SHE related and social issues, which provides more efficient and safe operation thereby adding to the prestige by the company.

In recognition of these achievements by the company, the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association is pleased to confer the ICMA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH / SAFETY / ENVIRONMENT for the year 2004-2005 on Tata Chemicals Limited, Babrala, Uttar Pradesh.
