Conferred on
RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LIMITED
Jamnagar, Gujarat
CITATION
Reliance Industries’s Refinery at Jamnagar is world’s largest grass-root Refinery, which became fully operational in early 1999.

The Refinery is highly focused on Energy Conservation and extensive efforts are made to conserve Energy through Best Practices, Benchmarking, focused studies and brainstorming discussions.

International Indices such as Shell Energy and Loss Index (CEL) and Solomon Energy Intensity Index (EII) are used to measure the performance of the Refinery. There has been spectacular improvement in the Shell Energy and Loss Index (CEL) from 88.7 to 86.9 in 2002 to 2004 whereas Solomon Energy Intensity Index was reduced from 66.1 to 62.5 respectively and no other Refinery has achieved such spectacular progress in a short time than Reliance. The Refinery has thus become the “Pace setter” in the world in its efforts towards energy conservation.

The changes in the plant’s hardware associated with Energy Conservation Process required the investment of Rs. 77 Crores over a period of 3 years, whereas savings achieved were Rs. 138 Crores.

In recognition of this spectacular achievement by the company, the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association is pleased to confer the ICMA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ENERGY CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT for the year 2004-2005 on Reliance Industries Limited, Refinery Division, Jamnagar.
