| Viscose rayon yarn manufacturing plants are water, energy and labour-intensive. The consumption of water is enormous and thus any reduction in water consumption directly improves the profitability of the company. Century Rayon is environmentally proactive and committed to conducting its operations with respect and care for the environment. It endeavors to continually improve its environmental performance and provide a cleaner, healthier and sustainable environment by practicing strict regulation, conserving natural resources and energy, encouraging reuse and recycling, water conservation, etc.
The various measures taken by Century Rayon in the factory and in their colony has resulted in reducing the water consumption from 26,856 M³/day in 1999-2000 to 17,105 M³/day in 2004-2005, a reduction of 36.65%. The company has formulated multi-pronged strategy for the realization of water policy objectives such as creation of Water Task Forces, Rain Water Harvesting, Total Quality Management, Replacement of high water processes with low water processes and Recycle, Automation and Awareness to conserve use of water and avoid its wastage amongst employees.
In recognition of the above measures by the Company, the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association is pleased to confer the ICMA AWARD FOR WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN CHEMICAL INDUSTRY for the year 2004-2005 on Century Rayon, Shahad, Maharashtra. |
